First previewed at the Beijing motor show as the i8 Concept Spyder in 2012, it’s taken a full six years for the plug-in hybrid open-top to be offered in the UK. In that time, the car has undergone a significant amount of development. But, despite the long gestation, it hasn’t lost any of its original impact.
Its contemporary exterior design and advanced powertrain specification might be familiar, coming some three years after the launch of the i8 Coupé, but there are few cars at any price that can claim to make such a powerful visual and technical statement as this roadster.
If anything, the i8’s futuristic lines are further enhanced by the loss of its roof, most notably around the rear, which has gained added prominence on the roadster due to the appearance of two large buttresses in the place taken up by the liftback-style tailgate on the coupé.

The C63 is an Absolute weapon. The V8 sounds incredible and shoves you back in your seat with the slightest touch of the throttle. You feel a bit like you are in an armoured truck in the G63, but when you’re carting kids around it’s the best place to be.
The car is great to drive, handles almost like a sports car and has great acceleration. It’s also quiet and refined. It’s a 5 seater and ideal for me, my wife and daughter, but might be a bit small with a young family. Leather is nice as is the panoramic glass roof and LED interior lighting
I have yet to find a more engaging car to drive. Yes, it’s low on power, but it can be forgiven due to just how fun it is to drive. It is so driftable; a quick flick of the wheel and you’re sideways in a very controlled manner. It would be the perfect car is it had 250bhp (Toyota put a turbo in the 2nd gen !)
It’s hard to explain but it feels like a pretty heavy car to me but it’s not noticeable in the corners or in terms of handling. It’s rough to compare the handling to the s2000 due to the weight difference and it’s not a fair comparison to the WRX either because it was AWD. I really like how it handles and you can really throw it into the corners. The car accelerates really hard. I put it in sport plus and got on it a few times, nothing crazy since it’s still in break in, but I was blown away by how fast it is. The 2015 WRX isn’t a slouch, it probably does 0 to 60 in right around 5 seconds
The GT2 RS is a properly brilliant sports car. And this from a man who’s never been a Porsche fan. I truly loved it. Everything about it. I normally rent Ferrari’s, but my original choice wasn’t available, so took a risk. And what a risk it was. So fast.
I previous tried an RS6 from Classic Parade, so I didn’t hesitate when I saw the offer to hire the R8 for the bank holiday. Cracking car, handles really well – tonnes of grip but will let you have fun if you know what you’re doing. Thanks again guys!
Had the pleasure of trying out the RS3 today. As a long time owner of a BMW M140i, I was interested in how the other side of Germany do things, as getting an itchy wallet!
Very nice car, a level up inside from the Munich beast, and for a 4 pot, makes a decent, if someone boy-racer type noise. Power delivery is linear and plenty of torque from the get go!
The twin of the Toyota GT86, but they can’t have it in Subaru blue (aka the best colour!). Amazing little thing, so drift-able it’s untrue. Wish it had a little bit more power, although I think you might end up backwards more often than not!
MORE POWER! Absolutely loved having the RS at the weekend, such a great car. Thanks to Andrew and the team at Classic Parade, top professionals from start to finish.
Driving the LFA well takes some getting used to, and more time than I had. You have to learn its quirks before you can really master what it’s capable of. I didn’t even come close to scratching the surface of what it can do on the street, nor would I want to. Track time in one is now at the top of my bucket list.
The LFA is an amazing, fascinating machine. Rare as it is, misunderstood as it is, in spite of whatever flaws it may have, it will easily stand the test of time as one of the greatest supercars ever built by anyone — badging be damned.
